Clinical AI, grounded in clinical practice.

I’m Chadwycke R. Smith—Chad to colleagues—a board-certified acute-care nurse practitioner at UC Irvine Neurocritical Care and a clinical-AI builder based in Orange County, California. I’m open to select collaborations with healthcare teams, educators, and clinical-AI companies in Southern California.

The work

Where I can contribute.

Clinical AI & citation auditing

Building with LLMs is easy. Knowing what a clinician can trust is the harder part.

My work connects clinician-facing software with evidence checks and human review. The procedure-training app at app.chadwycke.io includes a pipeline that checks cited PubMed identifiers against NCBI and flags dead or retracted references. That is a verification layer—not a replacement for clinical judgment.

Talk to me about clinical-AI workflows, citation fidelity, evaluation, and subject-matter-expert review.

Advanced practice provider education

Procedure training needs more than a deck and a completion checkbox.

I built app.chadwycke.io for advanced practice provider (APP) procedure training: 15 modules pairing teaching material with assessments and post-tests. My focus is evidence-linked content, usable educational interfaces, accessibility, and a review process clinicians can actually participate in.

Talk to me about APP procedure education, competency-assessment workflows, and clinician-facing learning tools.

Clinical product collaboration

The product brief and the bedside don’t always describe the same problem.

As former VP of Product & Marketing at Atlas Meditech, I co-led work on ATLAS clinical decision support with Dr. Aaron Cohen-Gadol. My clinical background spans neurocritical care, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery, and critical care at UC Irvine, USC Keck, UCLA, and Cedars-Sinai.

Before we talk

A few useful answers.

Clinical experience, working software, and a clear scope. Start there.

Where are you based?
Orange County, California. My current clinical role is in Orange at UC Irvine, and my prior roles include USC Keck, UCLA, and Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles. I’m interested in relevant collaborations across Southern California; project scope and meeting arrangements are agreed individually.
What is your clinical specialty?
I’m an MSN-prepared, AGACNP-BC acute-care nurse practitioner currently working in neurocritical care. My public CV also covers neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery, cardiac critical care, ECMO/mechanical circulatory support, and transplant experience. This is a professional collaboration site, not a patient appointment service.
Can I see something you’ve built?
Yes. Start with the citation-audit case study and the selected projects on my homepage. The case study explains the checks, the failures they caught, and the role of human review. Access to the clinical training app may be restricted; the public case study does not require access.
What should I include in an introduction?
Tell me who the tool or program is for, the clinical or educational problem, what already exists, and what kind of collaboration you have in mind. A short project summary is enough to start. Please don’t send patient-identifying information, medical records, or confidential institutional material.
